Case Studies

2014-Current / These projects walk you through a complete product design and development process

1.

Loggly Charts & Dashboards

The Loggly Charts and Dashboards project was Loggly’s largest and most complex feature initiative and design effort. These two features make up about 60-75% of the Loggly App usage. Loggly 2.0 had a bare bones version of this feature. This advanced intuitive charting and dashboarding feature transformed the Loggly App from a log management to a log analysis tool. There were lots of challenges including working with and displaying dynamic big data visualization in near realtime, designing the tool as well as its resulting output to accommodate as many common use cases as possible, enabling users to have greater flexibility, getting clear on what the actual most common use cases and workflows are, and designing for optimal user experience. [View project]

Loggly Master Component Library

In the fall of 2016, Loggly underwent a rebranding effort, and the Loggly App needed to be redesigned in the new Loggly brand look and feel. There were a number of challenges including extending the brand’s visual vocabulary, designing and retrofitting the consumer facing brand for the product (two differing use cases), working around technical limitations and release schedule, designing the system of the Loggly App as components (modernizing Loggly front end development in the process) and documenting the design as a component library. 3.

OpenDNS Login Screen

The OpenDNS Umbrella app’s login screen was gray, uninviting, and didn’t leverage screen real estate effectively. Additionally there was a need to add a two-factor authentication login workflow. The solution was to design a dynamic login screen with a greeting contextual to the time of day and the user. The new login screen also provide useful information such as the latest cyber security news from the OpenDNS security blog. [View project]
